Instructions to life group Leaders to prepare for the group meeting
- Read Colossians 2 and ask over and over, how does this affect you? How does this truth affect your daily life? Keep the conversation personal. (Avoid theoretical conversations about people out there, and bring the conversation back to us, for today, for your group)
- The summary of this chapter is: v6-7 tell us WHAT to do (Live in Christ, be Rooted in Christ, Built up in Christ, Strengthen in Christ, and be Thankful to Christ). Verses 8-23 teach us HOW to do that.
- v8 – Careful with false deceptive teachings
- v13-15 – The cross is enough to forgive us and bring us 100% to a living relationship with God, and destroying all guilt and shame. (We do not need to add to the cross)
- v16-23 It is not about observing a bunch of man made religious rules, but about Loving God and Loving others. We are not in a religious competition where we are trying to impress people.
Life Group Questions
- Read Colossians 2:8 – What are the philosophies that are attractive nonetheless deceptive in our generation? (Some ideas are popular ideas like (what matters is that you are happy, the most important thing is our self esteem, follow your heart….) , talking to dead through mediums (tv shows are always showing mediums talking to spirits), others…
- How important is to know the Bible for us to be able to combat false, deceitful teachings?
- Read Colossians 2:13-15 – Ask the group if they really understand what happened at the cross (Cancelled our sin debt, cancelled guilt & shame, …) Then ask “What does this GOOD news does to you? How does it affect your daily life?”
- Read Colossians 2:16-23 and talk about being religious versus having a relationship with God, and that we do not want to be religious but we want to have a daily relationship with God.
- Religious people follow a bunch of man made rules, that are visible to other people to see how religious they are. A relationship with God is messy because it is mostly invisible, in the heart, and based on grace that is also messy.
